Universal clears a few things up
A few people have been saying that Universal Spain have released a promo of "Tonight" to DJ's in that country, however today Universal Spain denied that anything of the sort has even been released and also confirm that "Say Something" is the first single off the album.
Just to double confirm this Universal Records in the USA also said the following:
"Nothing has been released for Mariah in the world, and nothing will be promoted until January for a March release."

Heroes note: Like I said yesterday, approximatively the same for Belgium.

Fans Cause Problems For Mariah Carey Comeback
Songbird Mariah Carey must be wondering what more she can do to secure her comeback.
After putting together an album’s worth of new material, which is being acclaimed by insiders as her freshest material in years, the curvaceous singer must be fuming after hearing that one of her 'fans' leaked her new single on to the internet two weekends ago, weeks before it was scheduled to be released to radio in January.
Within minutes the download link for "Say Something," which features Snoop Dogg, and is produced by hip-hop whiz- kids The Neptunes had spread like wildfire, with links to the track appearing on Mariah fan messageboards and even on her official site.  Only days before, Mariah issued a message to her fans, explaining her cryptic new album title, ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’, in which she confessed the title had leaked out, and wasn’t meant to be unveiled until February.
As of yet neither Mariah nor her label, Island Def Jam, have issued any response to the leak. In an industry increasingly paranoid about the impact illegal downloading is having on falling record sales, Carey is by no means the only major artist to suffer from an unwanted ‘preview’ of their work. In recent years the likes of Whitney Houston and Usher have been forced to combat illegal downloading by changing release dates. Only this month rap uperstar Eminem brought forward the release date of his highly anticipated new album ‘Encore’, by several days, because of piracy fears.
Hoping to build on the success of Mariah’s ‘comeback’ album Charmbracelet, after her infamous ‘Glitter’ debacle, Carey’s latest album, currently due for release in March 2005, is being viewed by some as the most crucial release of her career. Industry insiders are already speculating that Mercury will be forced to follow Eminem’s example, bringing the release date forward to combat potential lost sales. Having suffered in the past from piracy problems with both Glitter and Charmbracelet, it remains to be seen whether Carey, and Island Def Jam will learn from the past and put plans in place to prevent further unwanted ‘leakage’.
Meanwhile on a brighter note Mariah fans can catch her on "U Make Me Wanna," a track that is tearing up the current Official UK Urban Club Charts and on next months DVD release Mariah Carey Live at Madison Square Garden - just in time for Christmas!

For The Record: Quick News On Mariah Carey
It's only been about a week since Mariah Carey's first single from her forthcoming album, The Emancipation of Mimi, leaked on the Internet, and now a second song from the album is making the rounds as well. Carey's song "Tonight,"featuring Nelly and Pharrell Williams, is spreading on fan sites and message boards, with fans debating how the first song, "Say Something" (with Snoop and Pharrell), and this one stack up. "Tonight" features Carey crooning in an extended, whispered falsetto, with Nelly singing hook lines like, "It's all going down tonight" and "To the floor, everybody to the floor."

About the "Tonight" leak
mcbg1 at FOMM talked to the "nice" guy who leaked the track, apparently this person leaked it as radio stations have received the promo cd for the song, so, according to him, it could be the first single from the album.
Very strange, as I got Universal on the phone today, and there was still no official news, except the same approximatively dates of mid February for the first single and mid March for the album.
This pre-era is a real saga .

BLACK DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (time to vomit again)

Will every weekend have a track leaked ??????
"TONIGHT" HAS LEAKED, and according to Kinou (who of course didn't downloaded it), it is still on download on some Mariah forums and forums, the mods there didn't even thought it was important to delete it quickly, not even it was wrong or could hurt Mariah, I hope the lyrics of the song will not be posted on some "fan"sites this time.  It's bad to post the lyrics, 'cause in two hours you can have the lyrics rewriten with the same style and meaning, tomorrow you copyright them, the day after you write the music, the day after you record the song, the day after you master the track, the day after you press the cds and the day after you ship them to stores, so this means in a week, a song exactly with the same style and meaning will be sold in the stores.
I'm not even angry, I can't describe how I feel, this is absolutely disgusting and sad.
Mariah, sweetheart, I feel so sad for you .

This is too cute
Giving in to the holidays
By Joseph Blanchette, New Editor
It seems that the Christmas season begins earlier and earlier every year. It was a full week before Thanksgiving and I was hanging onto a ladder, stringing up Christmas lights while my wife was inside sorting through her Christmas decorations and listening to the "Sounds of the Season" cable music channel.
There was a time when I wouldn’t be caught dead stringing up holiday lights in 60-degree mid-November weather, but it seems my wife's affinity for the holiday season has started to rub off on me.
In years past, I would have been much more resistant to the idea of being one of the first on the block to decorate for the Christmas holiday.
And you wouldn’t have found Christmas music CDs in my car then either, except for one particular occasion.
One year while living in New Hampshire, my wife busted out the Mariah Carey Christmas compilation CD and popped it in while we were driving somewhere. I couldn’t take it for too long and I asked her to change CDs -- not an unreasonable request since it was the week after Halloween.I think she was enjoying the sweet holiday melodies too much. I asked again, and she told me that she wanted to hear "just one more song." We agreed, and the ditty played to its conclusion. She then tried to eject the CD, but it was stuck in the player of our new car. Now not only was it too early to be listening to Christmas music, but I didn’t have a choice, because that was all the radio would play. It was Mariah Carey Christmas all day every day from then on.
Kristin couldn’t have been happier. It’s weird, I know.
It was sweet revenge a couple of weeks later when we took the car to the dealership. They had to replace the stereo and couldn’t get the CD out at the shop. The radio was going to be sent to California and the CD would then be mailed back to us in "about six weeks."
I tried not to smile when I heard the news, I didn’t want to hurt Kristin’s feelings. But she knew I was happy for the reprieve.
We left the dealership and headed for home. But there was one more stop Kristin wanted to make. She pointed to the BJs sign and said she wanted to quickly run in and pick up something.
I waited in the car, feeling satisfied that I would not be forced to listen to the Mariah Carey Christmas CD for a while.
These happy thoughts were soon replaced with dread. She was walking toward the car with a CD. I didn’t have to ask which one it was, the smug smile on her face told me that she had purchased a new Mariah Carey Christmas CD. Now not only would I have to hear it again, but in six weeks, she would have two Mariah Carey Christmas CDs.
Bah humbug!
I’m really not a Grinch, it was just too early for my festive juices to start flowing. But that seems to be changing, maybe because of Mariah Carey.
While stringing up the lights at my house a couple of weeks ago, I had those same Mariah Carey songs running through my head and I couldn’t get them out. I think my wife planned it that way and brainwashed me. Judging by the number of cars that beeped and waved (I think they were all waving), she may have gotten to other folks as well.
As it stands, I have yet to find my limit of how early I can begin to seriously think about Christmas, but one thing I can probably count on is that I will think about it a little earlier next year, too.

Thanksgiving With The Stars
Access Hollywood was criss-crossing the nation with the stars who are giving back this holiday season.
Mariah Carey served up a sweet Thanksgiving to 300 children and their families at the True Worship Church in Brooklyn as part of her work with the Fresh Air Fund.
Our auditioning correspondent Egypt was there alongside the superstar.
"She kicked off the glamour girl and dived right in. You started serving up the collard greens," Egypt told Mariah.
"Serving it up. I had a what do you call that?... an apron?" replied Mariah.
"Now do you cook?" inquired Egypt.
"I do actually cook. I don't really use an apron when I cook though. This is my first apron experience," said Mariah.
"You cooks in high heels," joked Egypt.
"I do cook in high heels," said Mariah.
But Mariah was serving it up in sweats today, bringing joy to hundreds of children. She told Egypt she'll spend the rest of the day eating turkey in bed and resting her voice to record her new CD "The Emanicipation of Mimi." Mimi was Mariah's childhood nickname.
"I never really understood 'Mariah' as a name. It always kind of was like nobody could spell it at school. Nobody understood how to pronounce it, so 'Mimi' became my thing," revealed Mariah.

Billboard update
This week we see the first major jump on the singles charts for "U Make Me Wanna". It enters the top 50 of the Hot 100 in only its third week with a 66-47 move. It is one spot higher on the corresponding Hot 100 airplay chart. Over on the R&B airplay chart it is considerably higher at #15 in its 12th week. On the main R&B singles chart it is at #17.
On the Top 40 Rhythmic chart "U Make Me Wanna" retains its bullet but drops to #39 but on the Hot Rap Tracks it reaches a new peak of #15.
The Christmas season is now in full swing so "Merry Christmas" makes a big impact this week. It moves to #30 on the Pop Catalog chart and re-enters the R&B/Hip-Hop Catalog chart at a lofty #6. And on the Top Holiday Albums chart "Merry Christmas" sits at #28.

Mariah share Thanksgiving fare

Mariah Carey got in to the true spirit of Thanksgiving by volunteering her time at the True Worship Church in New York. Working in conjunction with the non-profit organisation Fresh Air Fund, the pop diva gave a little something back to the community that has supported her throughout her career by hosting a special three-hour Thanksgiving dinner.
With her hair tied up in a bun, Mariah was all smiles as she served up plates of roast turkey, stuffing and vegetables to inner-city children and their families at the Brooklyn church. The pop star traded her normally glamorous attire for the more practical casual jeans and a blue hooded sporting jacket. After the meal the 34-year-old took time out to pose for pictures and chat with the children.

Mariah treat
By Richard Johnson with Paula Froelich and Chris Wilson
Mariah Carey is spending Thanksgiving in New York for the first time in three years. In honor of the occasion, the songbird helped serve turkey dinner to 300 children and their families at the True Worship Church in Brooklyn this week as part of the Fresh Air Fund team. As for today, Carey, whose new album, "The Emancipation of Mimi," hits in the spring, is taking it easy with some pals at her Manhattan pad and may take in a turkey dinner at a nearby eatery.

Mariah? Now it’s ‘Mimi’
By Jeannette Walls
Mariah Carey has a message for fans: Call me Mimi!
The singer now joins the list of divas who’ve taken an alternative moniker, such as Jennifer Lopez (J.Lo) and Madonna (Esther). In fact, Carey’s new name will appear in the title her forthcoming album: "The Emancipation of Mimi."
“Mimi is a very personal nickname only used by those closest to me... just one of those little things that I’ve kept for myself in an attempt to have some delineation between a public persona and a private life,” Carey explains on her Web site.
By publicly adopting her private name, Carey explains, “I am letting my guard down and inviting my fans to be that much closer to me… Most importantly, I am celebrating the fact that I’ve grown into a person and artist who no longer feels imprisoned by my insecurities or compelled to try and live up to someone else’s vision of ‘Mariah Carey.’ I now feel I can honestly say ‘this is me, the real me, take it or leave it.’”
Some Carey fans found the Mimi revelation interesting for another reason: in “Bling,” a dishy roman à clef about the music industry released earlier this year, one character was widely believed to be based on Carey. Author Erica Kennedy — an insider in the music business who is the godmother to Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons’s daughter Ming — called the character “Mimi.”
Source: MSNBC (All rights reserved)
Heroes comment: Interesting, Jeannette and some fans, but Mariah was called Mimi by her closest way before the release of "Bling" or maybe  it was an advance message .

Protect "Say Something"
My good friend Alex had a great idea.  Since last week, way before the leaking of the track, he already protected the track with a few good fans.  And it works, numerous fake files have been spread on several file sharing networks.  His goal is to get more sources for fake files than for the real file.  So, you can simply rename a file of your choice (non commercial one of course, more like a WMA speech acceptance or something) and share this fake one if you are among the ones who go on file sharing networks.
I sent Alex's idea to the concerned people last week, way before the track was leaked and way before suddently other fans "found" the same idea.
A big thanks to Alex and his friends .

The Japan Mixtape
I had some copies of Baby Ree's Japan Mixtape mixed by DJ Couz for a Heroes of Mariah contest.  Unfortunately, after the leak of "Say Something" this weekend, and seeing that links are still active and new ones are still posted on some Mariah forums, I decided to scrap this contest, as I can't trust anyone, sorry for the ones who are honest and don't leak, but, the leakers spoiled this upcoming Heroes of Mariah contest for everyone.
Instead, I'll give the contest copies to DJs for promotion.
And please remember, everytime you leak or share illegally a track, a snippet or even a drop on a mixtape, it's called theft.

'U Make Me Wanna' #66 on the Hot 100, MERRRY CHRISTMAS returns
"U Make Me Wanna" continues its forward momentum on the Billboard charts with a new peak on several charts and a debut on Top 40 Rhythmic. On the Hot 100 and Hot 100 Airplay chart, "Wanna" reaches #66. On the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart it reaches a new peak of #26 and is one notch higher on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. The track also returns to the Hot Rap Tracks chart to a new peak of #22. And finally over at the Top 40 Rhythmic chart it debuts at #38. The only format left for the song to make its impact would be Top 40 Mainstream.
It's been a while since we've talked about a Mariah album on these Billboard updates. Of course it is no surprise that as we get closer to the holiday season we see MERRY CHRISTMAS return to the Billboard charts. Every year the album re-enters the Top Pop Catalog Album chart and this year is no different. This week it re-enters at #39. Look for it to rise as we get closer and closer to Christmas day.

"The Emancipation of Mimi" snippets heard by some fans
Outside the Fresh Air Fund's Fall Frolic! Amy, Heather, Lani, Leo, Christine and Kelly saw Mariah who told them the single was blasting in the car, and that she had to go in to the party. These fans got to hear snippets of the album while Mariah was at the party. They report that the album is amazing and the production really hot! There are some serious hip hop beats but with old school vocals to back them up. "Mine Again" totally rocks, "Say Something" is hot, "Hit the Floor" is really good, and there was another ballad that sounded like it was supposed to be a live track with crowds in the background and her introducing the song which is really good too. That one sad song is a thing about going round and round in circles and falling down or something, and the guy left her.  One of these fans also remember the song with Nelly being really hot.
As for if the CD is finished, well, they all thought that the CD was done because it was all the tracks on one CD all together and everything so they figured it was finished. But then Mariah told them she was still doing another song so they have no idea if it's even the finished product or not. For all they know she'll cut some songs and add in other ones.
Mariah's voice sounds strong mid-range. The fans remember her going into her lower register a few different times too and it sounded good. Great backround vocals and harmonies. "Say Something" is REALLY catchy, especially the chorus.
What really impressed a fan was the beats and the lyrics which are a lot more mature than her previous.
Mariah told them she's going to Atlanta tomorrow to do "one more song".
Thanks to the fans who posted their report at FOMM

But his daughter, Taniqua Jones, recalled him as "a big kid" who enjoyed candy, cooking and spending time with his children.
"One thing I know," she told the overflow crowd. "My father will be missed all around the world."
Carey, who collaborated with Ol' Dirty Bastard on a remix of her hit "Fantasy," wore sunglasses and a black outfit as she walked to his casket during a wake before the service. Carey stopped to study a collage of pictures featuring the hip-hop star.
There were metal detectors, and even a VIP section: ODB's cherry-wood coffin was ringed by red velvet rope.
One of the few allowed within was Carey. Wearing a black suit-dress and dark sunglasses, she approached the coffin, looked inside and left quickly.
Another Wu-Tang member, RZA, told the audience he felt guilty for not intervening when Jones' lifestyle veered out of control.
"The use of alcohol, drugs and sex will take any one of us out of here," he said. Other speakers included Jones' daughter Shaquita and son Bar-son. A large contingent of the rapper's family filled the front of the church during the nearly two-hour service.
"My heart is thrashing, my soul is breaking, my father is freed, and now he has awakened," said Shaquita, reading a poem she wrote after the rapper's death.
The funeral, held at the Christian Cultural Center, was attended by ODB collaborators like Mariah Carey, Method Man, U-God and Roc-A-Fella Records boss Damon Dash. ODB's wife and seven children were also on hand.
The burial came a day after some 600 mourners descended on Harlem's St. James Presbyterian Church for a public viewing of the rapper, who was in an open casket topped by a massive bouquet of white flowers
"He was like a character you'd know from around the way," one fan told a Newsday reporter on the scene Wednesday evening. "It just seems like the end of hip-hop."
ODB's father, William Jones, said he had spoken to his son about three weeks before his death, as the rapper was putting the finishing touches on a long-in-the-works solo comeback album. "He just loved life," Jones told MTV. "He was the light in the family."

Carey Laughs Off Money Trouble
Mariah Carey has shrugged off rumours she is running out of money after struggling to curb her lavish tastes and lifestyle.
According to recent media reports, Mariah has flittered away most of the US$28 million she was paid to terminate her contract with Virgin Records three years ago. But a spokesperson for the 34-year-old says, "She wrote the majority of songs on every album and songwriting is a very lucrative business." Carey is set to release her tenth studio album under the Def Jam label next year

Funeral To Be Held In Brooklyn For Rapper ODB
Funeral services for the rapper ODB are being held in Brooklyn Thursday.
Hundreds of family, friends, fellow artists and fans paid their respects at a public wake in Harlem Wednesday night. The Brooklyn-born rapper, whose real name was Russell Jones, was one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, and he also had a successful solo career.
“He was an unruly individual, so he didn’t let nobody hold him back, said the Wu-Tang Clan’s Cappa Donna. “And he didn’t let the fact that he was different and he was ghetto hold him back from accomplishing his dreams in life."
“Coming from the spot where the staircase don’t smell too nice to a joint with Mariah [Carey], that’s big right there – you understand?” said rapper Lounger Low. “Dirty set the tone for a lot of people, just as Wu-Tang [did]. Dirty, we love you man."
ODB, short for “Ol’ Dirty Bastard,” died Saturday while working on a comeback album in a Manhattan recording studio, after he had complained of chest pains. The cause of death is still unclear, and autopsy results are expected next week.
The funeral will be held at the Christian Cultural Center in East New York Thursday night.

Mariah's Message to Fans about The Emancipation of Mimi
So obviously my album title has leaked out way before I intended. (the single isn't even out yet...hello???)
Knowing that the title was very different for me and might cause some confusion, I had a whole explanation to go along with the press release which was supposed to come out in February, but basically that got foiled.
So here it is..."Mimi" is a very personal nickname only used by those closest to me...just one of those little things that I've kept for myself in an attempt to have some delineation between a public persona and a private life.
By naming the album The Emancipation of Mimi I am letting my guard down and inviting my fans to be that much closer to me..Most importantly, I am celebrating the fact that I've grown into a person and artist who no longer feels imprisoned by my insecurities or compelled to try and live up to someone else's vision of "Mariah Carey" I now feel I can honestly say "this is me, the real me, take it or leave it" For the first time in my life, I feel free and unashamed to be who I really am..And that's what the music of this album and it's title reflect..
As always, I love ya, appreciate ya and I enjoy ya!!! MC a.k.a Mimi.

No AOL first listen Friday
One of the mods at the mariahcarey.com messageboards has posted this:
The 11/19 date for an AOL First Listen that has been popping up on various sites is not correct. There will not be a first listen on that date, once any sort of promotions for the upcoming album are confirmed there will be a posting about it in the news section of this site.

Also, as we know since yesterday, the song has been pushed back, there was no chance they would already premiere it.  From now on, be very carefull with what you read without an official confirmation.

The mystery of the video dress still unsolved
Yesterday, I posted the picture Ginger and Linhgo thought to be the dress used in the "Forever" video.
At first I thought, that dress is not in the vid, but, as Ginger is known as "the queen of Mariah trivia" I trusted her and thought I maybe missed one second or so.
Today, I watched the "Forever" video and that dress is definitely not in the vid.
Or Ginger has a version of the vid I don't have and never saw .
bubbelita on our forum came to the same conclusion and as far as she knows, Mariah only wore this white dress during the Daydream concerts in Europe.
So, if you guys have any clue, please e-mail me or post your thoughts on our forum, you're all welcome.

SHE'S a brave girl, that Mariah Carey
After the box-office bomb that was her autobiographical flick Glitter, the diva is braving the critics once more with another big-screen foray.
Sources tell us Mariah has been lined up to play a bikini-clad babe in a remake of Bond spoof Casino Royale. We're told: "Mariah is going to play the part immortalised by Ursula Andress. It's a comedy so Mariah's going to be making fun of herself."

Mariah 'Emancipated' On New Album
Mariah Carey returns to her pop and R&B roots on her new album, "The Emancipation of Mimi," albeit with major dollops of hip-hop. On several tracks previewed for Billboard.com, Carey offers less vocal acrobatics then on recent efforts, proving that less can indeed be more.
Due March 29 via Island Def Jam, the new set will be preceded by the single "Say Something," produced by the Neptunes and featuring Snoop Dogg. Due to hit U.S. radio outlets in January, the slinky, sensual hip-hop jam sports intermittent machine gun-styled beats,
A longtime supporter of club remixes, Carey has commissioned David Morales, Peter Rauhofer and former Pound Boys member David C. to remix "Say Something."
Other album tracks previewed for Billboard.com include the Jermaine Dupri-produced "Get Your Number," a feel-good, dancefloor-primed R&B number that smartly references Imagination's early-'80s top 30 R&B hit, "Just an Illusion." It spotlights the vocals of Dupri, who also helmed the track "Shake You Off."
Carey handled the bulk of the writing on "The Emancipation of Mimi" and also produced the power ballad "Mine Again." Less adult contemporary and more Gladys Knight, the old-school song is signature Carey.
The album also features contributions from producer Kanye West and rappers Nelly and Twista. It's the follow-up to 2002's "Charmbracelet," which debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 1.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Mariah called Hot 97 to express her condolences to ODB's family
Mariah Called in to Hot 97 this morning to express her condolences. It was early morning and she sounded like she had just woken up. Very raspy but her message was nice. She basically said she give her condolences to his family and was appreciative of their collaboration but most importantly, their friendship. She also said that he was an original and would truly be missed.
But, the stupid morning show idiots attempted to make fun of her voice saying that she always uses a sex like voice. Ms. Jones, was imitating Mariah and was like "Good Morning Lamb".

"Shake 'Em Off" second single
Shayne got an e-mail from Universal where they said that "Shake 'Em Off" (which I've also heard referred to as "Shake You Off") will be the 2nd single from the album.
It's a JD produced r&b, mid/slow-tempo ballad, featuring a rapper.
Warning, these infos need to be taken carefully (not that Shayne would find this out, he's a very trustable guy), but in my opinion , it's too early to confirm a second single when the first one is not even out.
As Universal Belgium told me, all the infos are subject to change at the last minute.
This is really the most exciting pre-album era we got since a long time, as all is still uncertain and will give us surprises.

Rapper O.D.B. Collapses, Dies in Studio
By Nekesa Mumbi Moody

New York - The rap artist O.D.B., whose utterly unique rhymes, wild lifestyle and incessant legal troubles made him one of the most vivid characters in hip-hop, collapsed and died inside a recording studio Saturday. He was 35.
O.D.B. had complained of chest pains before collapsing at the Manhattan studio, and was dead by the time paramedics arrived, said Gabe Tesoriero, a spokesman for O.D.B.'s record label, Roc-a-Fella.
The cause of death was not immediately clear, but O.D.B. had recently finished a prison sentence for drug possession and escaping a rehab clinic. He would have turned 36 on Monday.
O.D.B. — also known as Ol' Dirty Bastard, Dirt McGirt, Big Baby Jesus or his legal name of Russell Jones — was a founding member of the seminal rap group the Wu-Tang Clan in the early 1990s. With his unorthodox delivery — alternately slurred, hyper and nonsensical — O.D.B. stood out even in the nine-man Clan, which featured such future stars as Method Man, RZA and Ghostface Killah.
The Wu-Tang blueprint was for each member to pursue solo projects, and O.D.B.'s were among the best. He released hit singles such as "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" and "Got Your Money," and appeared on remixes with artists like Mariah Carey.
"There's nobody like him in the game," RZA told The Associated Press in an April interview, when asked if O.D.B. could resume his career after prison. "He's got a lot of problems he's got to iron out, of course, but as far as a one-of-a-kind person, a one-of-a-kind artist, he's one of a generation, one of a lifetime. He's a very rare commodity."
But as his fame increased, so did his erratic behavior, and fans came to expect the unexpected from O.D.B.
When MTV News followed him around at the height of his popularity, he took the camera crew and several of his kids (he was said to have more than a dozen, by numerous mothers) to the welfare office — in a limousine — to get an allotment of food stamps.
And he received them.
In February 1998, he crashed the stage at the Grammy Awards and hijacked a microphone from singer Shawn Colvin as she accepted an award, apparently upset over losing the best rap album Grammy to P. Diddy (then known as Puff Daddy). He complained that he spent a lot of money for new clothes because he thought he was going to win. The rapper later apologized.
Over the years, he was wounded in shootings and arrested on a veritable laundry list of charges, including menacing security officers, illegally possessing body armor, driving with a suspended license, shoplifting and threatening a former girlfriend.
In 2000, after escaping a court-ordered stint in a California rehabilitation center, authorities searched for him for a month. He was finally arrested in Philadelphia — three days after performing in a New York City concert with his Wu-Tang clique.
He was sentenced in 2001 to two to four years in prison for drug possession, plus two concurrent years for escaping from the clinic. He was released in 2003 and immediately signed with Roc-a-Fella.
He heralded his return with a news conference alongside singer Carey — pop fans may know him best for his memorable cameo on her hit "Fantasy," featuring rhymes like "me and Mariah, go back like babies with pacifiers."
Tesoriero said O.D.B. had been working on his comeback album for more than a year and was almost finished.
"Russell inspired all of us with his spirit, wit, and tremendous heart," Roc-A-Fella founder Damon Dash said in a statement. "The world has lost a great talent, but we mourn the loss of our friend."
His mother, Cherry Jones, said she received the news of her son's death in a phone call, which she called "every mother's worst dream."
"To the public he was known as Old Dirty Bastard, but to me he was known as Rusty. The kindest most generous soul on earth," her statement said. "Russell was more than a rapper, he was a loving father, brother, uncle, and most of all, son."

Provocative colors
Bayly Art Museum puts 'Whiteness' on display
"Whiteness" is an elusive concept. In an attempt to address this often times confusing and debatable social construction, a group of artists have decided to present their own perceptions and ideas of whiteness through paintings, sculpture, photography and collage.
The exhibition features a variety of artists' interpretation of whiteness, and as a whole, addresses not only the racial and social construction of whiteness, but also how that construction relates to history, class, region and gender.
One room of the exhibition housed a large and incredibly detailed piece called "Mulatto Nation," by Lezley Saar. Saar's life-size construction was set up like a gift shop, displaying items for sale that featured images of famous bi-racial celebrities, such as Mariah Carey and Sinbad. Items for "sale" included bumper stickers with provocative statements such as "Make Mulattos, Not War" and "Uppity Mulattos Unite." Abstract images and representations of the combination of whiteness and blackness also were included in the piece.

Mariah's multi-million dollar deal
Reports have been flying around about Mariah Carey's cash flow, but word is she is doing fine on the financial front.
With her new single expected out in January and an album following, she's also been offered a lucrative multi-million dollar publishing deal with Universal, and she's rumoured to be appearing on the big screen once again, starring in a remake of the 1967 Bond spoof, Casino Royale.
The Manhattan-based singer is also considering insuring her long legs for a big sum, according to an insider.
"Mariah is 5ft 10ins and she often wears high heels to go about her daily business, so it is important that nothing happens to her legs," they added.

Street Beat: Burke's Best Bet
MARIAH CAREY F/SNOOP DOGG & PHARRELL "Say Something" (MonarC/IDJMG)
Hard to believe that Mariah Carey is preparing to drop her 10th album of a career that has seen its share of peaks and valleys. While there’s been more good than bad since her 1990 debut, MC sure has seen her share of bad press, which is what makes this record so interesting. The press is the one who is generating a buzz on Mariah as some key radio tastemakers are just getting their ears on a track that features Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams. The Neptunes-produced track is just a sample of what’s reportedly some of Mariah’s best music in years, and if the early reports are to be believed, Carey’s new CD, due in March of 2005, could put her back in the Pop music spotlight. Carey has been laying low and it seems there is a new energy in the Carey camp with new management and a new executive overseeing her CD in Island/Def Jam Chairman L.A. Reid, plus now fans get an early Christmas present with a new track that is fresh with a killer beat that is sure to if anything put Mariah back in play in a big way. BET ON IT!

Review of 'Say Something' by Erik Bradley
Dino (mcbg1 at FOMM) contacted Erik Bradley from WBBM/Chicago and here's the answer he got:
" I don't "HAVE" the song yet but I have heard it several times. It's INCREDIBLE. As a Mariah fan, you are gonna love it and I really think it's going to be one of her biggest hits of the last 5 years. It's produced by Pharrell from the Neptunes and features Snoop & Pharrell. I can not wait to play it on B-96! We'll probably receive a copy of the song in late November -- not too much longer!"
Also Erik Bradley said the vocals were strong and not as 'breathy' as they are on 'U Make Me Wanna', and said the song was 'VERY strong'. He seems to be excited about the full cd. " Say Something" is an uptempo and the promo cd will be sent to radio stations at the end of the month.
And great news!!!!!!!! According to FMQB (Radio Industry News), "Say Something" will hit radios on December the 6th. or 7th. Here are the exact details:
12.06-07
Mariah Carey f/Snoop Dogg, "Say Something" (MonarC/IDJMG)
Thanks to Dino for all these great news

Not So Scarey Carey
They're never reluctant to capitalise on a photo opportunity, or a chance to let their hair down, and it seems that when the clock strikes midnight on Halloween night, you're more likely to see celebrities in fancy dress than ghosts and ghouls on the prowl.
Bringing her annual Halloween Party to New York's Cain club, Mariah Carey ensured that, as hostess, she was the centre of attention, in an outfit that was more sexy than scary- an eye catching wedding dress complete with veil, and the kind of sexy underwear which showed those famous Carey curves at their best. Mariah has been seen in wedding garb just once before- at her ill-fated wedding to Sony supremo Tommy Mottola. Mariah apparently declared to friends that she deliberately chose this year's fancy dress costume because she 'never felt sexy' at her wedding. Mottola, now married to little known Mexican soap star Thalia must have regretted what he was missing.
Clearly preferring to avoid the scary element of fancy dress, Carey dressed as a mermaid for last year’s Halloween bash, which she held in London. Playing host to the likes of jazz singer Jamie Cullum, Alicia Keys as Catwoman, and assorted members of Atomic Kitten, the arrival of Transylvanian novelty act the Cheeky Girls may have been enough in itself to keep children awake all night. But there was consolation in the form of a £30,000 pair of earrings,  presented to her as a gift from the Sultan of Brunei’s son.
This year however Carey had to make do with entertainment from the king of bling himself, P Diddy. The ever modest Diddy, who recently declared himself the perfect replacement for Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, arrived for Carey’s party dressed more in the spirit of ‘Gladiator’. Dressed as a Roman Centurion, the eccentric rapper concluded the evening with a sword fight against his publicist’s Prada bag. Other high profile members of the glittering guest list included ditzy reality TV stars Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton, record producer Nellee Hooper (Bjork, No Doubt, Massive Attack), former Motown boss Andre Harrell, and Versace heiress Allegra.
Clearly enjoying the opportunity to party, after months toiling away in recording studios, preparing her new album, it seems that Mariah has plenty of cause for celebration. The disc, due early next year, features collaborations with some of hip hop’s finest, including Damizza, Kanye West, Nelly, Neptunes, R Kelly, Snoop Dogg and Swizz Beats. Long term collaborator Jermaine Dupri, who worked with Carey on smash hits ‘Always Be My Baby’ and ‘Sweetheart’ recently told MTV that the pair had collaborated on two tracks entitled ‘Shake 'Em off’ and ‘Can I Get Your Number’ and declared that ‘Mariah is singing unlike we’ve heard her in a while’.
Anyone feeling deprived of Carey’s charms shouldn’t have long to wait until they hear the 34-year- old songbird again. Rapper N.O.R.E’s new album ‘One Fan A Day’, due for release in late December features a duet with Carey, built around a sample of the late, lamented Big Pun, while the Scott Scorch produced ‘U Make Me Wanna’, a duet with Jadakiss, is currently picking up heavy rotations in the States.

this one is too funny
Mariah Carey, who was followed the whole night by an assistant with Handi Wipes to dab her face, tried to get the attention of "King Diddy" as he stood on his gold throne issuing proclamations through a microphone. After a few pulls on his jacket, His Diddyness finally descended from his perch to plant a kiss on the singer, who wore a tiara and long-trained Vera Wang gown.

I received a lot of e-mails of you guys living in the LA area, asking if Mariah would be at this party.  Mariah will NOT attend the release party, it's why the infos about this party were posted on Go 4 Hit Promotions on November the 5th. and not on Heroes of Mariah.

"Say Something" lyrics???
Take a look at our forum, to read the 4 first lines of the lyrics Bob Martin sent me by e-mail.  I find it strange, that a guy from Mariah's label gave the lyrics away and don't mind them being leaked, so, I only posted the 4 first lines, I think we will need to wait to hear the song, to see if these are the real lyrics, so wait and see.

Recently a reliable source contacted MariahCarey.dk with release dates for Mariah's upcoming new material. The dates provided by the source were for Europe only and are listed below:
7 February, 2004 - New Single (commercial release)
21 February, 2004 - New Album (commercial release)
Mariah Connection have been in contact with Universal Records and were told that the above dates were infact the current "penciled in" ones. However Universal Records did say that it was to early to have concrete dates, as releases tend to change all the time.

Excited Mariah fans all over the net.
Since we all read the New York Post article with news about the first single, Mariah fans become very excited, everyone try to search more infos. Among the infos, here's an interesting one found by TofaChino at FOMM:

Speaking of Mariah's new album, I am a member at ALLACCESS.com (All Access Music Group) a website similar to the now being renovated Hitmakers.com which tracks songs and which radio stations are picking them up. I am a huge music fan so all charts and how many adds a song gets per week is important to me. Anyway, the point is that on the TOP 40 Rhythm/Crossover Charts a Mariah Carey track titled "Say Something" has been added for airplay in Chicago, Illinois by DJ Eric Bradley. Does anyone know anything about this?????"

Happy B. Diddy: Thank Puffy for election week's one bash
Election week brought Hollywood to a virtual standstill. Premieres and charity galas were almost impossible to find, and the few events that did occur were barely worth the red carpet.
Except for P. Diddy's bash. The fashion designer/hip-hop artist/entrepreneur celebrated his 35th birthday Thursday night in the grand style with which he has become synonymous. Happily, the crowd dressed big - literally - for the big occasion.
BIRTHDAY FLOAT: You've got to love Mariah Carey, who went all out for P. Diddy's bash in a ballgown dress complete with train. We expected the tiara, but the full layered dress was a sight to behold. Even getting through the door must have been no small achievement.

'Out of Cash' and Carey
Despite her whopping $50 million settlement to leave Virgin Records, Mariah Carey is said to be cash-strapped. "Mariah does not have a lot of cash left," said a source. "She got like $28 million after taxes, but went through a lot of it.
"She has a hairdresser and make-up artist who she keeps on a regular basis and they cost like $8,000 a day. She won't leave her house for anything without getting her hair and make-up done."
But at least Carey looks great - she stunned onlookers at her Halloween party at Cain and Sean Combs did a double-take when he saw her in a Vera Wang gown at his birthday party Thursday night.
Another problem seems to be Carey's houses. "Mariah has houses all over and she redid her TriBeCa apartment last year and it was very expensive," we're told. "She just goes through money like water."
Island Def Jam records publicity chief Laura Swanson denies Carey has any cash-flow problems, saying: "She wrote the majority of songs on every album and songwriting is a very lucrative business. I think renovating an apartment is just fine."
In any event, word is that Carey's having an auditor look at all her expenses and review the books of her financial manager and her music manager, Benny Medina.
"Nothing is wrong, she just wants to look at everything and make sure it's all in order," our source explains.
Carey seems to still be happy with Medina, who showed up with her at Bungalow 8 last week. Later Carey, Medina and L.A. Reid went to Lure Fishbar for a late dinner. "She talks to them constantly," the source said.
And she should - Medina and Reid have been hard at work creating her next album, set to hit shelves on March 1.
Carey's first single, titled "Say Something," will drop at the end of the month and features Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams. The number is produced by prolific hip-hop hit-makers the Neptunes.
The album also has tunes produced by Janet Jackson's fiance, Jermaine Dupri, and Kanye West.
"Mariah is getting ready to shoot the video for 'Say Something,'" Swanson said, "It is an amazing album that crosses all boundaries of R&B, hip hop and pop."
Source: New York Post (All rights reserved)
Heroes comment: Remember the rumors of Mariah being cash-strapped comes from our good Roger from FoxNews . But, what's interesting in this article is " her next album, set to hit shelves on March 1.
Carey's first single, titled "Say Something," will drop at the end of the month and features Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams. The number is produced by prolific hip-hop hit-makers the Neptunes.".

Host Mariah Carey arrived at her own Manhattan soiree at 1 a.m., not to the song "Here Comes the Bride" but to her own hit "Fantasy." Held at a hot new South-African-themed club "Cain", the party drew Pharrell Williams and one gutsy guest who dressed as a faux Mariah."  .
In the wee hours, P. Diddy and Carey headed to an after party at "Crobar" separately."

Divas join Diddy for glitzy birthday bash
Rap star P Diddy pulled out all the stops when he rang in his birthday with an all-night party in the Big Apple on Thursday. A roll-call of A-list stars came along to offer their best wishes to the hip-hop impresario as he celebrated turning 35 with a lavish bash in Manhattan's Cipriani ballroom.
Naomi Campbell was radiant in an elegant red creation and hotel heiress Paris Hilton was likewise turning heads with a figure-hugging pink number and white fur stole. Pop diva Mariah Carey meanwhile looked like she was ready to take a stroll down the aisle, in a voluminous white Vera Wang gown and tiara.
The birthday boy, who was characteristically dapper in a black suit, arrived for the event with his model girlfriend Kim Porter.

'U Make Me Wanna' debuts on rap, regains R&B bullet
"U Make Me Wanna" seems to have rebounded from a temporary setback last week and regains its bullet on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks with a move to #36 in its ninth week on the chart. On the corresponding R&B airplay chart it holds the same position.
"U Make Me Wanna" debuts on the Hot Rap Tracks chart at #25 (it is a 25 position chart). But perhaps most importantly "U Make Me Wanna" gains ground on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart where it moves to #5 and thus moves closer to a berth on the Hot 100.

N.O.R.E. Reps His Latin Side With Reggaeton 'Oye Mi Canto'
Things are looking up for N.O.R.E. The former Def Jam artist recently signed with Roc-A-Fella Records, his new album drops next month, and he's got one of the country's biggest singles with "Oye Mi Canto."
The song, which features Nina Sky and reggaeton artists Daddy Yankee, Gem Star and Big Mato, serves as N.O.R.E.'s first foray into the emerging Latin genre.  "Reggaeton is in my blood like hip-hop is in my blood because I am half Latino-American," said N.O.R.E. "I fell in love with this music.
According to the Queens, New York, native, he's gone through a transition between his last album, God's Favorite, and his new album, One Fan a Day, due December 21.
One Fan a Day features production from the Neptunes, Timbaland, SPK and Midi Mafia, among others. The album features guest artists Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek and the Young Gunz's Chris. It also includes an unreleased verse from N.O.R.E.'s good friend Big Pun.
"Pun was my man," N.O.R.E. said of the late MC. "When I entered the rap game I never wanted to make friends. I was the dude who would sit in the corner with the ice grill and wouldn't say anything to anybody. Pun was the first dude to make me break out of that. Pun embraced me like I was his brother.
"I did a record with Mariah Carey [for her album], and I told her, 'I just want you to do a record back,' " he continued. "I asked her if she was a fan of Pun's, and she said she was. So I told her to think like he was still alive. I told her to think of [Pun's] 'It's So Hard' and 'I'm Not a Player.' I wouldn't send her the Pun vocals, so she laid a chorus without me sending her the Pun vocals. I know she was mad at me, but she laced it. The world is going to love it."

Scram Jones: Working Magic On All Spectrums
While producers that rhyme on the side are more common than usual nowadays, Scram Jones posts a triple threat like Kevin Garnett in the key. Along with contributing album highlights to some of the year's bigger releases — "Work Magic" from Lloyd Banks' The Hunger For More, and "Yeah Yeah Yeah" from Terror Squad's True Story — the New Rochelle native spits rhymes that are just as sick, and displays turntablist skills that’d put normal DJs to shame.
This fall, the Bronx bomber dropped his mixtape Loose Cannons. Along with highlighting all three of his talents, the disc features everyone from vets like Cam'ron and Nature to rookie-of-the-year candidates Papoose and Saigon. In an interview with BallerStatus.net, Scram Jones speaks on future projects, putting business before pleasure, and the lost art of DJing.
BallerStatus.net: You've worked with everyone from up-and-coming cats like Saigon to better known acts like Terror Squad. What are some memorable studio sessions you've had, and who are you working with now?
Scram Jones: When it comes to the underground cats or artists that haven't been signed, most of those sessions are right at my crib. They're just informal sessions, we just kick it. I go to N.O.R.E.'s studio too, and that's where I met Mariah Carey and got something on her album. I recorded there with Beanie Sigel, that was a memorable time. He had all these constraints; he had to spend a lot of time, he couldn't be around weed and all that, with the whole thing he was going through. So we're in one room, smoking and chillin', and he was in another room writing to the beat. But he wasn't really writing, he was just listening to the beat and basically writing in his head, he didn't have a pad and pen. About half an hour or 20 minutes later, he said, "I was ready," and we knocked out a song for his album. That was pretty ill, that was pretty memorable.
Another time, Mariah Carey and Damon Dash walked in, and I'm working the boards, and I'm thinking, "I've got my beat CD right here (laughs)." So I'm popping that in and going through the tracks, and one of them grabbed Mariah's ear. I grabbed the connects up and sent her the music; and she actually picked something else off of the CD, not even the one that she liked (before). That was a historical moment for me.

Little message to all Mariah fans
It's now been a very long time that I support and promote all Damizza's productions.  As you may know, Mariah is featured on two Damizza mixtapes right now.  One is "The Japan Mixtape" and the other is the "Baby Ree Mixtape Vol. 3".
I would like to ask every fan to not give in download (on/by websites, forums, yousendit, MSN Messenger, AIM, mIRC, file sharing software, etc...) these mixtapes and especially Mariah tracks.
You all probably ask, "Who this guy think he is to ask us that", well, I'll tell you something, I think I'm a good fan, I love, support, promote and respect Mariah and her work, I support and respect Damizza's work too.  How do you think these mixtapes will sell well if they are given in download, you'll say, "Who cares", well, Mariah, Damizza and me care.  You don't need to do it for me, maybe not for Damizza, but, definitely for Mariah.  I'll tell you one last thing, do you think Mariah will laugh when next week she will hear at the "Baby Ree Mixtape Vol. 3" launch party that the mixtapes are stolen (read leaked and offered in download).  Would you steal a cd in a music store?  Don't hide yourself behind the excuse "I don't have Paypal or a credit card", ask a friend or your parents to help you, there's always a solution.  Pass the message!!!

Mariah over her Halloween outfit
Mariah Carey tells pals she never felt sexy at her wedding to Tommy Mottola back in 1993, so she became a bride again on Sunday night, this time in a sultry dress reminiscent of the one in Madonna's "Like a Virgin" video.
Carey swanned into her Halloween bash at Cain as Sean Combs, dressed as a gladiator, jumped on top of his Rolls-Royce screaming, "Vote or die!" Then he lifted up his gladiator tunic and flashed several photographers.

After singing on Jadakiss' 'U Make Me Wanna,' she's eager to have the rapper return the favor.

Mariah Carey's got more men than she knows what to do with — working on her upcoming record, that is. So far, the singer has enlisted a host of top rappers, R&B stars and producers for the project, now slated for a spring release.
When asked about the album recently, Carey responded coyly: "Oh, you don't want to hear about that now. You can just wait. No, the record is cool. I'm happy with it. We got ballads, we got uptempos, we got a lot of things."
So far, Carey has collaborated with Kanye West, R. Kelly, N.O.R.E., Jermaine Dupri, Swizz Beatz, James Poyser, Randy Jackson and, most recently, the Neptunes and Snoop Dogg. "I just did two records with the Neptunes, and one with me, Snoop and Pharrell," she said.
Jermaine Dupri worked with her recently as well, putting what he calls the "JD bounce" on a track called "Shake 'Em Off" and then stepping out of the producer's chair to duet with Carey on a song called "Can I Get Your Number." "Mariah is singing unlike we've heard her in a while," Dupri said. "Sh-- is hot."
N.O.R.E. concurred, saying that after he worked with the singer for her album, he immediately enlisted her services for his own forthcoming LP, One Fan a Day, due out December 21. One of his tracks — at first tentatively called "Friends" and now currently without a title — features a previously unreleased verse from the late Big Punisher. Carey, however, didn't have the benefit of hearing that verse before she came up with the chorus.
"I told her to think like Pun was still alive," N.O.R.E. said. "I told her to think of [Pun's] 'It's So Hard' and 'I'm Not a Player.' I know she was mad at me [because she didn't get to hear it], but I know the world is going to love it."
Yet another collaboration — this time with Scott Storch — was just as fruitful, but for someone else's album. Hearing a beat Storch made for Jadakiss' single "U Make Me Wanna" made Carey wanna ... be on the song (see "Jadakiss Has More Questions, And So Do Nas And Common").
"I was just like, 'This is hot tamale. We need to do this together,' " she said. "And then we went into the studio, and basically they had the 'La-La-La' part, and I started singing 'K-i-s-s me' because I was thinking of his name ..."
"She made it a hit," Jadakiss interrupted.
"No, I'm not trying to take no credit," Carey continued. "It's just that it was cute, so I started singing it, and they decided to make it the hook of the song, and then it came to be."
Now that she's softened up Jada's single, she's eager to have the rapper return the favor.
"When are you going to get some Kiss vocals on there?" the rapper asked her.
"I have a nice track that I would love for you to be on," Carey told him. "It's a Swizz Beatz record that's hot tamale, and we need you on it."
"No doubt. It's a done deal," Jadakiss said. "And I heard it first."
Since Carey's album is still in progress, it hasn't been determined which, if any, of Carey's pairings will make the final cut, her label rep noted.

Jay-Z & Friends - Story/Concert Review
By Keith
The rest of the ROC came out to join Jay-z on stage for a couple more tracks. As they headed off a voice you can’t mistake hit the mic! Shouting “New York City!” Busta Rhymes & Spliff Start hit the stage! Busta can really hold it down! He is definitely one of my favorite live performers. If you ever have the chance to see Busta live, you have to check it out! Busta closed his set by bringing out Mariah Carey to perform their song “Baby if you’ll give it to me”.

Liz Smith about Mariah
Mariah Carey is out and about, looking good and looking confident. (At Usher's birthday party, she huddled and danced with Denzel Washington for most of the night.) Carey, who has seen her stock rise and fall and then rise again, is said to have a monster hit with her new album from Island Def Jam Records. And she hasn't even finished it yet! First listeners say it is "the strongest album of Mariah's career." In a career that has seen some stratospheric highs, that's saying a lot.
The label's big honcho, LA Reid, has worked closely with Mariah on this effort as has producer Jermaine Dupri. He has a current hit with Usher and Alicia Keys.
I wish all the best for Mariah, a girl who has had her share of problems. She is, I think, essentially a young woman to whom fame - in the person of career molder Tommy Mottola - came too fast and too furious. Also, her 1994 Christmas album remains constantly in my CD player during the holiday season. It is my favorite Mariah recording. (Her "O Holy Night" is stupendous.)

Jay-Z's tour was in NJ last night and back at MSG today.
I'm letting you know in case Mariah will be there again and maybe someone will want to try and see it.
This is what ticketmaster said yesterday:
"R. Kelly will not perform tonight or Monday, November 1st as a part of the Best of Both Worlds Tour. Jay-Z and Special Guests will be performing tonight & Monday."
